HN Digest
Hacker News' top 10 stories every day, summarized in English and Turkish.

Hacker News moves fast, and the interesting part of a story is often buried in a long article. HN Digest picks the day's top 10 stories and gives you a short summary of each, so you can tell in a minute which ones are worth your time. Every summary is available in English and Turkish.
What it does
- Daily top 10: one focused list a day instead of an endless feed.
- Bilingual summaries: what the story is, the concrete details (names, numbers, versions), and why it matters, in English and Turkish.
- Read in place: open the source or the HN comments next to the summary without leaving the page.
- Reading activity: a small heatmap of what you've read, kept only in your browser.
How it works
The site started as an on-demand summarizer: every click asked OpenAI for a summary, and visitors had to bring their own API key. That was slow, cost money per visitor, and left a summarization endpoint open on the public internet.
Now it works more like a newspaper. A small script runs once a day, fetches the top 10 stories, reads each article, and asks gpt-4o-mini for both languages in a single call. Stories that stay on the front page for more than one day reuse yesterday's summary. The finished digest goes to Cloudflare KV, and the Worker only serves that prepared JSON, so the site never calls an AI API itself.
The whole thing costs about $0.005 a day: roughly 10 calls and 20k tokens.
